Earth Day is focused on Environmental and Climate Literacy. At MEGAComfort, we believe it’s important to be mindful of living green, and that even small actions can impact our world , both locally and globally. As well, sharing education about what you can do to help protect the environment is very important.
If you want to get involved and take action to help the environment we’ve put together a list of ways to help.
You don’t need to change your whole lifestyle but this year add one act of going green. Here are some examples:
⁃ Plant new trees in your yard or in your community.
⁃ Write to your local government, or even the President, about climate change.
⁃ Consider buying or leasing a hybrid car.
⁃ Swap driving to work for walking or cycling, or if possible car pool.
The meat industry is currently responsible for around 20% of greenhouse gas emissions for the entire world. As meat consumption rises across the world, the meat industry emits 36 billion tons of greenhouse gases. It’s important that this number slows down and currently, the trend only shows it will increase over time. To reduce the carbon footprint of the meat industry we recommend trying meatless Mondays. Each Monday, try not to eat meat, it’s that simple. Swap your chicken or beef for a vegetarian dish.

Paper or Plastic?
How about neither. How many bags do you go through at the grocery store, probably a lot! Especially if you’re double bagging your groceries. Each year, there is 300 million tons of plastic being produced! That’s a lot of bottles, packages, and bags. Only 10% of these goods are being recycled. The rest of the plastic goes into landfills, or remains litter that has a harmful effect on soil, water and wildlife.
However, we can all make a difference by bringing re-usable bags or bins to the grocery store. It’s a simple and effective way to make a difference.
Reduce Your Footprint
Obviously, we don’t want you to reduce your actual footprint, we want you to protect your feet with MEGAComfort insoles! However, we do want you to reduce your carbon footprint. Reducing CO2 emissions can fight climate change and protect our environment. Here are some great ways to reduce your carbon footprint:
⁃ walk or ride your bike instead of driving, whenever possible.
⁃ Drive a low carbon vehicle like a hybrid or an electric vehicle.
⁃ Combine your errands into one trip instead of making multiple trips.
⁃ Keep your car clean, or at least try not to overload it, excess weight not only slows you down but makes your car work harder.
⁃ Use energy efficient appliances at home.
⁃ Eat locally produced and organic foods.
Earth Day is really more than a day. It’s a point of inspiration to help us be more mindful of our habits and how they affect our local and global community. We hope some of these tips make it easier for you to celebrate Earth Day, each and every day
